The Bean’s Beans

After last year’s gardening debacle, I decided not to grow any herbs or tomatoes this year. I didn’t want the hassle. It turns out that I should just let my kid do the heavy lifting for me.

Sometime in mid-June, my daughter’s day care center tied in a little science with the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. The kids were each sent home with a cupful of dirt and a bean plant. The Kid was ecstatic, showing everyone who approached the house her beanstalk. The Wife planted it and we figured that we’d see what happened.

Layla took to the gardening aspect, watering the beans each night and checking their progress. On Wednesday night, we harvested a dozen beans from her little plant…
