This is my recipe. Yes, I make my own barbeque sauce though not often. My cooking decisions are never made with any sort of planning, so giving the sauce a day to breathe never happens. But, when I do, this is my recipe.
Jared’s Barbeque Sauce Recipe
- ¼ cup minced or finely chopped onion
- 2 tbsp minced garlic
- 1-2 tbsp butter
- 2 cups ketchup
- 1/3 cup water
- 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/3 cup bourbon or sour mash whiskey (Jim Beam or Jack Daniels, but never Irish, Canadian or Scotch whisky)
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp mustard powder
- ½ tsp cayenne
- Salt and pepper to taste
Melt butter in saucepan over medium heat. Add the garlic and onion and sauté until translucent and soft. Combine remaining ingredients in a saucepan and reduce to low heat for 20 minutes. Allow to cool, then transfer to a sealable, airtight container and refrigerate. Make a day ahead so the sauce flavors have a chance to crossmojolate.
